In a statement on Wednesday, Durov noted that China’s education system fosters “fierce competition” among students, a principle reminiscent of the “highly efficient” Soviet model. He contrasted this with Western educational approaches, where competition is often minimized to avoid hurting students’ feelings.

He cautioned that unless the US education system undergoes significant reforms to encourage competition and recognize excellence, China’s growing dominance in technology appears inevitable.

The US education system fosters innovation, new ideas, new products, great designs, music, etc. The Chinese education system produces great engineers, scientists, and problem solving… but they aren’t the greatest at innovation (SO FAR). The Chinese are able to take a concept and make it cheaper and better (sometimes). But I believe China still struggles to create new great products that are completely new. Just look at their movie industry…with all the money and people China has, the still can’t produce GREAT movies – something the US can do (Hollywood). Even with their newest launch ?Deepseek?, at the end of the day, it’s still a copy of OpenAI. I believe China is still many years away from reaching the innovative stage. Remember, Japan, reached it’s innovative stage in the 1980s, after 40 years of copying the US. Think Transformers, Nintendo, SEGA, Sony, etc…they took off only in the 1980s. Before that, Japan was merely copying US ideas.

I think you are right to a large extent, but it is also why many things China has innovated upon is downplayed, their innovations, a lot of them aren’t exported. Like Durov said, I too feel like this is just the start for China. They have been working to catch up to the cutting edge set by the developed countries of today, what happens when they have caught up? Stagnation, or innovation? Are they as a culture adverse to risks? I think the people who fund projects, venture capital are, and that dictates what gets pushed. They will reach a point that they are at uncharted territory, and regularly take risks to find the next big thing.

You need to keep in mind that the USA blocks & greatly restricts China’s medium to high tech products. The USA’s ruling classes only want China’s low tech products, because the USA’s ruling classes do NOT want to promote China’s advancement. The USA’s ruling classes want China to be a source of cheap, low-quality exports for controlling inflation in the USA. Thus the general public in the USA are ignorant about China’s better products. Check international reviews & reports (including social media) about China’s various vehicles, drones, robots, farms, power plants, military tech, etc. China is producing the full spectrum of cheap to mediocre to good to excellent stuff.

Regardless, any good organization is based on specialized labor, teamwork, & technology. When doing various tasks, a person who is good at general subjects could outperform a specialized person. Once US universities were the pinnacle of education but as government funding dried up and diverted to more profitable areas like the MIC, profitable for a very few not to the nation, these hallowed institutions had to seek funding from corporations and wealthy citizens. Once that occurred the downhill slid was on and it continues today. The US no longer relies on training their own but imports specialists just look at Silicon Valley. US school systems are terrible where people graduate but are barely literate. I recall that McDonalds many years ago had to introduce pictures on their cash registers because people could not read the type of food on offer. The US has been left behind a long time ago but one thing the US is extremely good at is BS and they keep on telling themselves they are the best and they believe it.

Of course Durov is perfectly correct and we have known this for decades. It is the West’s liberal touchy-feely teaching staff that causes the problem but ignores it. It’s also easier to have no class discipline as it saves having to teach properly. Then that is masked by reducing the standards needed to pass exams and get a degree. So, many graduates are no cleverer than 1970’s ‘A’ level students. Another aspect of this touchy-feeling nonsense is to ban the discussion of any ‘challenging’ ideas, like discussing why we actively help Israel slaughter the Gazans and why we label anyone against the slaughter –‘a(chǎn)nti-semitic’! The West lives in it’s own rosy make-believe fantasy world.

In the West, children are kept in schools so that parents can work undisturbed. So to say the tasks they are assigned to do are boring and repetitive and not very challanging. So in fact.. the method i use to teach them is, that they may solve the problems verbally if they think they are easy. I will write down the answers for them, to share the burden of being assigned a task that feels pointless. And if they make mistakes or are slow they need to write the answer down themselves, because this means they are in need of practice.

The issue identified by Durov, is NOT a Western issue, it is an American issue. It is ONLY the US who has retarded students. This is because their culture is mentally handicapped. The American system favours Universities making money, not actually educating students to a high level. If a student is paying big money for his/her education, then it is in the interests of the University to push their students through to success via multiple choice answers to questions. Only the US uses multi-choice exam questions, nobody else.

Of course yajoo was around back then of course. Yahooooooo. Wow our Internet sucked back then. Literally three minutes to load a picture . I was at that age where I was exposed to all types of pictures

The problem I had as a kid learning the math when I was a kid was that I couldn’t find anyone to ask questions that knew how to do it if I ever hit a road block. It was before the internet . Still math was very easy but due to my parents working I was on my own. I got c grades but never did homework after a while. I til college. Calculus a+ physics a+ Chemistry a+. Biology a+Who does not love geometry? The high school told me I was a retard and my parents tried to get me to join the marine corp since they would NOT pay for it and I was on my own ever since.i was a class clown
