To make it short and simple,There are a few reasons to study in abroad :
Quality of Education : Quality of education is the primary thing that we lack in India unless one is studying in premium institutions of the country like IIT's ,NIT's etc. Moreover more emphasis is given on theoretical knowledge rather than practical knowledge or doing research.
Reservation : Not speaking on this thing, otherwise some over enthusiastic previleged quota holder will get offend.
Global Exposure : A student gets exposure to the global culture ,languages & people from all over the world.
Jobs : Although getting the work permit is not that easy in every country still,one gets better pay and opportunities for growth of self to live a quality life and have a better standard of living.

Foreign Education! The name itself is so exciting that it fills the heart with positivity and energy. “GRASS IS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE”, a quote well said firmly applies to this question. Well, I am not talking against abroad, just giving clarity.
Abroad studies are not so grades oriented or so calculative. Let me explain this to you.
In foreign countries, students become independent from after 18. They, generally, pay their college fees and other expenditures on their own. They do this by doing part time jobs. In other countries people are paid on hour basis. In US it is generally 10–20$ per hour. But, here in India we generally get paid monthly.
So, mapping this with psychology- Whatever we earn, we know its value and we tend to invest/spend on only those things we truly want. So, people out there tend to invest their money only on the things they really want be it studies, sports or business. Unlike here in India that everyone(in general) are dependent on their parents and do college just for mere degree (the most popular one is engineering).

Instead of posting a story or some buttery answer, I am going to tell you the exact answer.
There could be one or many of the following reasons:
Failed to Secure a Job after Bachelors.
Doing Job in shit companies and want to get a better job
Frustrated from his/her current living standards in India
Wants to settle abroad (easiest way to settle)
Fascinated from life of friends or other people living abroad
There could be other similar reasons as well. Mostly I have listed the main reasons for you to think and decide whether you are in the same boat or not.
Masters abroad is neither inexpensive nor easy to do. It costs Lacs of Rupees in general. Think and Decide what’s best for you.

Well, there are many reasons and honestly very good answers given below.
History: Indians have been going abroad to study since the mid 18th century, from Mahatma Gandhi to Jawaharlal Nehru, there are many famous Indians who went abroad to get education. There's a very simple explanation, University of Calcutta, University of Madras, University of Bombay were established in 1857. Some of the oldest established universities(formal education) in India. Now, compare it to Oxford or Cambridge which began their operations in 10th and 12th century, respectively. So those universities have close to 1000 years of evolution.
Indian universities on the other hand aren't that old or well developed. Even the famous IIT's started post 1947.
But why do Indian students go abroad?

Top quality education(top grade students get good scholarships, average students get better education)
Some use education as a pathway to settle abroad, as many countries provide post study visa and this gives them an opportunity to find permanent employment and extend their stay, and after a certain period, apply for Permanent Residence.
To earn better. For someone with zero education and skills, can you imagine buying your own house, live a good life, by just driving a cab, or flipping burgers at McDonald's. But many Indians pick not so high skilled jobs, and they are still able to live a decent life, in comparison to India.
Adventurous and different life. There are students who have a strong family business, and are not even smart enough to get into a top college, and money isn't a constraint. They study abroad for just a different experience.
Study courses which aren't available in India. (like a Master's in Motorsport Engineering, many more)
With time I'll add more reasons, but at present, these are pretty much it.

Because India is having only 95 Tier 1 engineering colleges composed of mostly IITs,NITs,IIITs . 50 percent reservation is present so very good general students also do not manage to get into them . So the better option is to go abroad .Just imagine India is a nursery of 4000 fucking poor quality engineering and management institutes.All the Indian universities are shit and they should learn something from western universities.Delhi University is also shit.

Very simple answer.. To get a better quality of life. Foreign countries (obv the developed world where most of our students go) are in the front lead not only in education but also in different other factors. Eg. India is one of the most polluted country in the world, crime rate reaching unexpected levels, women are not at all safe here, never ending corruption, getting govt job here means you have to pay large amount of money then only you have chances, etc... Whereas in the developed world these problems diminished years ago.Some of these factors are major contributor towards the step for a foreign education investment.

On the other hand in the developed world first of all they give you admission not only on the basis of your scores but on the basis of YOURSELF. So this only tells us how much they have developed. Their average colleges (which not demands one to grind, to get into) have avg. packages similar to our top govt. institutions'.
They study abroad after which the chances of them being settled there are on the high side, where the quality of their life will be far better if they would have been here in India.

Things like — why leaving your country, swadesh hai mera…XD are ok. But as a human being you have got only one life. After you die no one gonna ask you which country you belonged, so you will obviously want to have a better quality of life no matter wherever you got it .

I'll share my perspective after completing my undergraduate engineering in India (BE):
I wanted to experience a different side of things when it came to studies.
Indian education system is pretty rigorous. How would learning in a different country be? That was one question I wanted to answer
Job prospects - certainly when I went it was hard to get cool engineering jobs. Now, I would think 10 times on this factor.

There are several factors for Indian Students going abroad. Some of the cases which I I came across
1. Those who pursue higher education with better employment opportunities abroad
2. Those who have money and knowledge both.
3. There is a third variety which I came across. The father is pretty rich and the boy is extremely dull and have backlogs. The boy and father are very eager to get a degree from Malaysia and Bank Bangkok, just for the heck of it so that they can do some pomp and show to get better rich bride and then to run their existing business/ and establish new business
4. The fourth category is to avoid poor working conditions and employment opportunities that does not exist in India which is industrially backward and supports strange reservation/promotion policies riddled sycophancy and hero worshiping .

Here is a list of few important things, which you must know, if you are going to study abroad:
1. Freedom comes with responsibility
While studying abroad you may get all the freedom you have always longed for, but you must not forget that freedom comes with its share of responsibility. Be responsible enough to enjoy the freedom you have got.
2. Choose your company wisely
Like it is always said that do not trust anyone blindly. You must keep this thing in mind, while sexting your company. It is not necessary that you will always meet bad people, but there is no harm in staying cautious. Once you are in foreign land, stay on guard all the time.

4. Don’t digress from your major obxtive
With all the fun and frolic around, don’t digress from your major obxtive that is ‘studying’. Balance everything accordingly and give up your best shot in your studies.

Life is unpredictable and you never know what is going to happen next. There are times when you get stuck in crisis and the situation appears worse, especially when you are alone in an alien land without any support. If by any chance, you get caught in any unwanted trouble just don’t panic. Find the solution to your problem with a relaxed mind.
6. Mentally prepare yourself
In your homeland you live in your comfort zone, but you must prepare yourself to face all kinds of situation once you are abroad. Panicking in such situations will cause unnecessary stress. Prepare yourself mentally and everything will be sorted out.
面對危機，保持冷靜
生活充滿不確定性，你可能會遇到危機，尤其是在異國他鄉(xiāng)孤立無援時。如果遇到麻煩，保持冷靜，用平和的心態(tài)尋找解決問題的方法。

Most of the students are na?ve when they go abroad and hence, are not able to take wise decisions. Decisions made in haste can land you in trouble, so always think wisely before taking any decision. Don’t give yourself a chance to repent or regret anything.
8. Acquire all the information before hand
Once you have decided to study abroad it becomes your duty to acquire all the information about the country, university, place where you will live, weather, transport system, communication system, language etc. Once you are informed, you won’t face much trouble in finding way to your path.

Nobody is perfect in this world and everyone commits mistakes. If you commit any mistake don’t loose your heart, consider it as a stepping-stone to your final destination.
